In 2008 China officially became the worlds largest emitter of C02 (greenhouse gases), largely driven by its ever increasing demand for energy most of which is met by producing electricity from coal fired power stations. Worryingly China is building a new coal fired power station every week and has huge reserves of coal, much of which is very low grade and highly polluting. Here trucks haul highly polluting low grade coal from an open cast coal mine near Heihe, Heilongjiang province on the Chinese Russian border.
