The reindeers were beforehand roundup from the mountain pasture in the mountains. The Finnmark is Norway's largest region covering an area of 49000 square kilometres and is also considered one of Norway's least inhabited provinces. The majority of Sami people live in the Finnmark and are thought to be Scandinavia's indigenous people. Nowadays Norway has a 40000 to 45000 people strong Sami community which still follows a traditional lifestyle. Reindeer breeding is an integral part of the Sami culture, of whom some of them still live as nomads in northern Scandinavia following the annual trail of reindeer herds. Photo: Patrick Pleul
