A Georgian headstone, decorated with an angel, stands beside the path to St Symphorian's church on Forrabury Common above Boscastle harbour: 'Agnes ye wife of John Gard who was buried the 31st Day of Aug'st 1786 aged 76'. "My dearest husband, Lo I come: To meet Thee in Eternal Home, To Dwell above in Christ’s Embrace, and to behold Him Face to Face. Tis Only from the Lord above, a gracious Act of sovereign Love."
