A formal studio portrait of a fine old matriarch: Bessie Lambert, née Cable, born at some time during the 1830s, and who died in 1910. Family photographs used as postcards were very popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods: here a photograph of one of the recipient's grandmother is used, but not referred to in the note. The postmark suggests the card was sent from High Wycombe, on the 30th Dec, 1909 (?), a year before Bessie died. The photograph could have been made earlier, however, and looks late Victorian.
