More information:

The tank belongs to the 3rd Armored "Spearhead" Division. A temporary camp was set up by the American Army for IDPs (internally displaced people) just inside Iraq, south of Safwan. Less than two weeks before, Saddam Hussein's Republican Guard had brutally suppressed a Shia uprising in Karbala, further north. Following the defeat of Saddam Hussein's forces in Kuwait, no Iraqis were allowed entry to Kuwait by the Kuwaiti authorities. Abandoned in no-man's land, their only assistance was from the US Army and an occasional Saudi Arabian food truck. After Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in August 1990, coalition forces were quick to send their armies to both defend Saudi Arabia and to successfully oust the Iraqi forces by the end of February 1991.
