The original plan on which it is based was made by Leonardo Bufalini as a woodcut and published in 1551, a fact that is recorded in the lower right of this print. The print is folded and kept in a marbled (19th century?) pocket to which is fixed a label that reads ´Pianta di Roma Antica delli Nolli [parioli?] 10.´ Inscription: Lettered dedication in cartouche upper left to Cardinal Silvio Valenti ending ´Urbis Ichnographiam a Leonardo Bufalino ligneis formis evulgatam, servata proportione, contractam atq. aeri incisam Io. Bapta. Nolli geometra & architect. Novocom. D.D.D.´, numbered index of places at left and right. Signed along bottom ´Inc. Franc. Monaco e Carol. Nolli / Romae cum privil. anno 1748 / Editoa per Magrum Leonardum. Anno l´Domini M.D.LI.´ Numbered at top 35 on left and 36 on right; Provenance: A. Hyatt Mayor (American, 1901-1980); Donor: A.
