Faceted Bottle. Object Name: Bottle; Date: 10th-11th century; Geography: Attributed to possibly Iran or Egypt; Medium: Glass, greenish; blown and cut; Dimensions: H. 6 7/16 in. (16.3cm); Classification: Glass; Credit Line: Rogers Fund, 1924 / This unusually tall, graceful bottle is a fine example of cold-cut glass. The makers used the lapidary technique of wheel-cutting to create facets on the surface. As this technique was common in the medieval period throughout the Islamic world, from Egypt to Iran, it is virtually impossible to establish a specific origin for objects made in this way.; Provenance: Cairo Museum, Cairo (until 1924; sold to MMA)
