More information:

A section of the Hennepin Canal running through the Hennepin Canal Parkway State Park. The no longer used canal waterway in northwest Illinois runs between the Mississippi River at Rock Island, Illinois and the Illinois River near Hennepin, Illinois. Construction began on the waterway in 1892 and it saw its first boat in 1907. Although it never attained the success of its sister I&M Canal, it remained open to boat traffic until 1951. The Hennepin was the first American canal built of concrete without stone cut facings. It is listed on the US National Register of Historic Places. The bridge in the background is an active railroad structure.
