Semaphore signals at north junction of Appleby railway station on the Settle to Carlile railway line. The north junction line, branching to the right gives acces to the former Eden Valley Railway which closed to passenger serivces in 1962/63. That line remained in use for occasional freight trains until 1989. Part of the old line is now being gradually reopened as the Eden Valley Railway, a heritage railway based at nearby Warcop. The Setle to Carlisle line is still operated by semaphone signals and staffed signalboxes.
