Ruined Castle. Artist: Copy after John Sell Cotman (British, Norwich 1782-1842 London). Dimensions: Sheet: 8 1/16 × 10 11/16 in. (20.5 × 27.1 cm). Date: 1802-42. Areas of crude handling, and lack of finesse in the treatment of form and shadow, suggest that this drawing was made by a student copying a Cotman original. The latter returned to his home town of Norwich to run a school between 1823 and 1833, then moved back to London in 1834 to become drawing master at King's College School, retaining that position for the rest of his life. Museum: Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA.
