Soldiers from the US Army 3rd Infantry (The Old Guard HHC) each year decorate the graves at Arlington National Cemetery for the Memorial Day weekend. Almost 300 000 persons are interred at Arlington. There are 260 000 gravestones. Flags are placed 1 foot in front and centered of each of them. The task of marking each grave at Arlington is completed in less than three hours. Daily funerals average about 25 each workday. The cemetary gets 4 000 000 visitors each year. Burial in Arlington is limited to active retired and former members of the armed forces, Medal of Honor recipients, high ranking federal government officials, and their dependents.
