The whole side ofthe car is a compound steel girder made up of the deepolate girder below the windows, with numerous posts riveted ever possible, and such improvements as are always devel-oped in actual construction, a cheaper and lighter car canbe built by the use of steel which will be stronger in resist-ing the force of collision and practically fireproof. The steelpassenger car will thus be developed by experience in con-struction, by a display of ingenuity in designing efficientdetails, and the adaptation of fireproof materials to a simplerinside finish.
