It is in reality periosteum, slightly modified to adaptit to its environment and special functions. The peridental membrane is derived from the sacculus of the dentalfollicle. It is continuous with the periosteum of the alveolar process, andappears to he a reflection of this membrane, to line the walls of the alveoliand invest the root of the tooth.
