Portrait of popular prima donna 'Madame Patti'. (aka Baroness Cederström) Adelina Juana Maria Patti 1843-1919 was an Italian 19th-century opera singer,who earned enormous fees during her career as she toured the music capitals of Europe & America. Her talent was widely appreciated & the composer Giuseppe Verdi, writing in 1877, described her as being perhaps the finest singer who had ever lived. A shrewd business woman, Patti demanded demanded to be paid $5000 a night, in gold, before each performance at the height of her career and saw out her final days in luxury in her 'Craig-y-Nos' Castle
