The 12,000 flamingoes (Phoenicopterus ruber) which spend the winter months in the saltlakes of Cyprus close to Larnaka are there feeding off populations of the brine shrimp Artemia salina. They can be viewed most times in a year. During the time of photographing them, they would spend more time with their heads underwater rather than staying still. Although they are large birds, they were not easy to photograph with the Sony GM 400mm lens.
