The Sav-ings BankOF New Lon-don was in-corporated inMay, 1827.There wereat this timebut threeS a V i n g sBanks in theState of Con-n e c t i c u t :The Societyfor Savings,in Hartford;The Middle-town SavingsBank; and The Norwich SavingsSociety. The incorporators met inJune of that year, and EbenezerLearned was chosen President of theBank and Robert Coit Treasurer.The business of the Bank was tran-sacted in tlie l)anking room of TheLTnion Bank. In 1852, the Bank having outgrownthe limited accommodations whichcould be afforded by the Union Bank,the Trustees built on Main Street, onthe site now occupied by the Bank.Tlie new building proving inadeipiate,in 189.5 one addition was made and in. WILLIAMPresident New Londo 1898 the capacity of the Bank wasdoubled by another addition. TheBanks growth has overtaken this in-creased capacity, and within a year ortwo another addition will be put on. The financial growth of the SavingsBank of New London has been steadyand rapid. Its gain during the pastfiscal year was 1445,954. Its deposit-ors number about 9865. From the outset the Directors ofthe Bank have been citizens of NewLon<lon conspicuous for tlieir business al)ility, andto that factmuch of thesuccess of theBank is due.Jlie Presi-dents of theliank havebeen Ezra( h appe 11,K b e n e z e rLearned.Robert Coit,and the pres-ent incum-bent, WilliamH.
