People from the Warwickshire town of Kenilworth were once again able to board a passenger train t53 years after the infamous Dr Beeching closed the old station and withdrew passenger services in 1965. The railway remained between Leamington Spa and Coventry as a freight line that also serving non-stop cross-country passenger services. The new station, sponsored by Warwickshire County Council, has cost £13.6m, some 20% more than first estimated and is 15 months late opening.Local residents were out in force on 30 April 2018 to welcome and board the first passenger service to Coventry at 0616hrs

Rail Passenger services commenced from the Warwickshire Town of Kenilworth on 30 April 2018 after a period of 53 years. The old station was closed with passenger services withdrawn in 1965 leaving the line between Leamington Spa and Coventry as freight only branch. From the mid 1970’s onwards passenger trains, primarily forming Bournemouth - Manchester cross country services have used the line and continue to run today although they will not be stopping at the new station built largely on the site of the old station. Local residents wait to board the 0616hrs departure as it approaches Kenilworth on 30 April 2018 with the first rail passenger service from Leamington Spa to Coventry formed by West Midlands Railway Class 153 365.
