On 20th August 1868, the Irish Mail express traveling from London Euston to Holyhead on the Isle of Anglesey collided at Llanddulas on the North Wales coast with a number of loose rolling stock wagons containing paraffin oil. In the conflagration which ensued 33 people lost their lives. The memorial to the tragedy and the mass grave containing the remains of the victims are situated in the Church Yard at Abergele, North Wales.
