The massacre was an atrocity committed by insurgents during the 1798 Irish Rebellion which cost the lives of over 100 noncombatant men, women and children. It took place in Scullabogue, near Newbawn, County Wexford. From History of the Irish Rebellion in 1798; with Memoirs of the Union, and Emmett’s Insurrection in 1803 by W.H. Maxwell. Published in London 1854.
