Protestors in Manchester's Piccadilly Gardens stage a demonstration opposing Sudan's President Omar-al-Bashir, calling for him to submit to the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes allegedly committed in Darfur region. Sudan denies any atrocities and says it does not recognise the ICC. President Bashir,who took power in a 1989 military coup, has defied opposition calls to step down in the face of economic hardship in Sudan. A state of emergency was declared in February with central government being dissolved and replaced by state governors.
