A weekend of events are taking place to commemorate the Peterloo Massacre, when on 16th August 1819 a crowd of 60,000 walked to the meeting point in St Peters Field when government forces charged into the crowd, killing 18 men, women and children and injuring hundreds. 200 years later and the city remembers. Public events are taking place with the Peterloo Tapestry on show and a soapbox crate in place for people to have their say on proposals for rebooting democracy.
