London. England. British Museum, Statue of a horse from the quadriga of the Mausoleum at Halikarnassos (Halicarnassus or Tomb of Mausolus), ca. 350 BC.
Halikarnassos was an ancient Greek city which stood on the site of modern Bodrum in Turkey.
The Mausoleum, possibly designed by sculptor-architects Pytheos and Satyros, was one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World. The Mausoleum was built as a tomb for Maussollos, a member of the Hekatomnid dynasty.
