Lachish Forest, Israel. 20th Dec, 2022. A worker for the Israel Antiquities Authority carries dirt outside the entrance to the elaborate 2,000 year old Second Temple Period family burial cave, known as the Salome Cave, in the Lachish Forest in the Judean lowlands, on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. Archeologists say the cave was continued to be used in the Byzantine and Early Islamic Periods and became known as the Salome Cave due to the tradition that believes it is the burial place of Salome, the midwife of Jesus.
