The path to the Santuario (Sanctuary) de Chimayo in northern New Mexico passes a chain link fence. Crosses, wooden crosses, bronze crosses, leather crosses, crosses made of sticks and woven grass found on the grounds of the Santuario, painted crosses, carved crosses, are fastened to or woven to the fence. Each cross is a prayer for one who has passed on, or for health, family, loved ones in need of help.
