John Jay, 1745 - 1829. American statesman. He was a Founding Father, an abolitionist and signatory of the 1783 Treaty of Paris. He was the first Chief Justice of the United States and the second Governor of New York. After an engraving by Asher Brown Durand from a work by Gilbert Stuart.
