Torrential Rain Flooded Jakarta's Airport Toll Road Jakarta, 08th May 2008. Torrential rain has flooded the coastal area of Jakarta, including an approximately three-kilometers part of the toll road connecting Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and the city of Jakarta, Indonesia. Media reported that 259 flights were cancelled, while nearly 1, 000 flights were delayed or diverted. The rainwater has also flooded a buffer zone--which consists of mangrove swamp, a canal and aquaculture ponds--located between the toll road and the shoreline on the north coast of Jakarta, allowing infiltration of sea water.
