Staffel, Kampfgeschwader 30: Probably taken in the Barent’s Sea, it is thought that this dramatic photograph records the sinking of a merchantman on the Murmansk Run, hit by Willi Erken’s crew from 5./KG 30 on 5th July 1942 while flying Junkers Ju 88 4D+FN. Will Hoffmann was the Air Gunner on board. The date coincides with a day of devastating attacks on Allied convoy PQ17 and this photograph may record the end of MV Peter Kerr, sunk on this day.

RMPD6HHY–Image from the photo album of Oberleutnant Oscar Müller of Kampfgeschwader 1: On 27th June 1941 Junkers Ju 88A-5 V4+ON (Werk. Nr. 4296) of 5./KG 1, was reported lost during a mission to Riga. Unteroffizier Friedrich Leibold (Air Gunner) was killed in action but the rest of the crew, Pilot Oberfeldwebel August Wiese (centre), Observer Feldwebel Martin Hasten (right) and Radio Operator Unteroffizier Armin Wuigk (with spectacles), returned in eight days. Here the crew are still disguised in civilian clothes and talking to Luftwaffe officers.
