Built in the 16th Century, the Vasari Corridor enabled members of the Medici family to pass from Palazzo Pitti to Palazzo Vecchio without the need for security guards or mixing with the masses. The corridor passes over the famous Ponte Vecchio, which crosses the River Arno.
