September 14, 2018 - Several demonstrations have taken place in northern Syrian today especially in the city of Idlib. Demonstrators raised the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham flag and carried banners reading ‘there is no alternative to the fall of the Syrian regime’. Demonstrators also denounced the Russian intervention in the conflict and demanded other factions not to surrender their weapons. Women and children joined the rally, as well as a number of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham fighters. With Idlib remaining the latest major opposition stronghold in Syria a seemingly imminent full-scale offensive on Syria's Idlib province has been looming large over the last few weeks. The major opposition group in Idlib, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, previously known as Al-Nusra Front, controls most of the territory in Idlib. So far, they have opposed any possible deal with the Syrian government showing their readiness to put up a hard fight and to fight until the end. UN officials have warned that an offensive on Idlib would trigger a new wave of displacement for 800, 000 people and have appealed to both sides in the conflict to find a solution that spares civilians (Credit Image: © Juma Mohammed/IMAGESLIVE via ZUMA Wire)
