On 20th August 1868, the Irish Mail express from London Euston to Holyhead on Anglesey, collided at Llanddulas with loose wagons carrying paraffin oil. 33 people perished in the ensuing conflagration. The mass grave containing the remains of the victims and the memorial is situated in the Church yard at Abergele, North Wales.
