Germany, Berlin, Tiergarten, 8th May 2019, Soviet soldiers are remembered in a wreath-laying ceremony on the anniversary of VE Day on the 8 May. Official bodies lay floral wreaths and people deposit floral tributes and candles around the monument. The Soviet Memorial in Tiergarten commemorates the 80,000 Soviet soldiers who fell during the Battle of Berlin in the last weeks of the Second World War in Germany. The war memorial on Straße des 17. Juni was designed by architect Mikhail Gorvits with the sculpture of the Soviet soldier by sculptors Vladimir Tsigal and Lev Kerbel.

It consists of a curved central walkway supported by columns and the highest column supports a Soviet Soldier with his gun slung over his shoulder to signify the end of the War Two T-34 tanks and two howitzers used in the Battle of Berlin flank the curved memorial.
