Franz Boas, German-born American anthropologist in 1906, at the age of 48. He established his leadership of the relativistic, culture-centered, school of American anthropology from Columbia University in New York City from 1899 to 1942. His great contribution was that 'race' was a cultural construct, and opposed ideas of European racial superiority (BSLOC 2018 4 95)
