A meeting of the Lancaster Florists' Club was held October 24. One of the features of the meeting was an en- deavor to get at the cost of production, which brought out a lively discussion, but not much in the way of practical results. Henry Rohrer gave an interesting account of a trip through the west and his visits to various florists, including Breitmeyer's, of Mount Clemens, Mich.; Van Bochove & Bro,, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; the E. G. Hill Co., of Eichmond, Ind., and others. The Board of Trade rooms were en- gaged as a meeting place for a year, and if any visiting florist is within reach on the third Thursday of any month he is welcome to attend the meetings. Henry Rohrer exhibited some fine chrysanthemums; so, also, did Rudolf Nagel, and a fine exhibit of chrysan- themums and carnations was made by Mr. Spinner, gardener for the Locher estate. Various Notes. At Albert M. Herr's place carna- tions have been relegated to one large house and will be grown for rooted cut- tings only. The other houses are filled with stock plants of geraniums, of which he grows only three varieties, Nutt, Ricard and Poitevine. Of these there are five houses full of rooted cut- tings in various stages. He recently bought his father's place and has torn down all the houses thereon and erected one large house, intended eventually as a start for a range of cut flower houses, but used this season for coleus, of which he has some twenty varieties now in 4-inch pots for stock.
