--FILE--A food delivery courier of Chinese online food delivery company Meituan rides electric bike to deliver meals on a road in Shanghai, China, 25 March 2018. China's largest online booking platform Meituan Dianping has agreed to acquire a big stake in shared-bike startup Mobike, Caixin has learned. The deal is brokered by Pony Ma, CEO of Tencent Holdings Ltd., which is the backer of Meituan, sources close to the matter told Caixin. The sources added that Meituan expressed interest in investing in Mobike as early as late 2017, but the deal was put on hold due to objections from Li Bin, Mobike's chairman and one of its angel investors. The technology portal Lanjing TMT reported on Tuesday (3 April 2018) that Meituan will acquire Mobike for $3.7 billion. A Meituan representative refused to comment on the report, and a source close to the Meituan's board said the amount is incorrect because the deal is not yet sealed.
