George 3rd reigned for 60 years -1760-1820. He took great interest in developments in agriculture (agricultural revolution) and earned the nickname, Farmer George. George lll was the monarch who purchased Buckingham House, which, known as Buckingham Palace remains the London home of the British monarch. He was the on the throne when the American Colonies, revolted and claimed independence. During the later years he had recurring bouts of madness (later attributed to porphyria) during which his son George, Prince of Wales, took on Royal duties; a period known as 'the Regency'.
