Engraving depicting William Huggins' stellar spectroscope which he used on his 8-inch diameter refractor at Tulse Hill. Constructed by Browning of London, the relative positions of telescope and prisms could be adjusted by a Micrometer screw so that different parts of the spectrum could be examined. William Huggins (1824-1910) an English astronomer best known for his pioneering work in astronomical spectroscopy together with his wife Margaret Lindsay Huggins. Dated 19th century
