30 April 2018, Germany, Klessin: Excavation technician Werner Schulz, Verein zur Bergung Gefallener in Osteuropa e.V. (VBGO) (lit. Association for Recovery of Dead Soldiers in Eastern Europe), uncovers the mortal remains of a supposedly Soviet soldier from the Second World War. The search for remains of dead soldiers continues at the margins of the Oderbruch region. Until today, the whereabouts of many soldiers killed in action during the Second World War in East Brandenburg are undetermined. About 25 representatives of the Verein zur Bergung Gefallener in Osteuropa e.V. (VBGO), amongst others from Poland, Germany and Russia, travelled to Kessin in order to dig from the weekend onwards until Tuesday. The remains of the dead will be buried after the search at a later date. So far, the association found the remains of 95 German and 110 Soviet soldiers since its founding in 1990 in the Kessin area, according to its own statements. Photo: Patrick Pleul/dpa-Zentralbild/ZB
