Sow the seed in hotbeds early in March. When 3 inches high, pot the young plants, using small pots, and plunge them in the same bed so that the plants may become stocky. They can be planted out from the pots when the season becomes sufficiently warm in May or June. The soil can hardly be made too rich. Set the plants in open ground, allowing 3 feet space between the rows and 2 feet space between the plants in the row. Watch for the potato beetle. This pest, as well as blight, may be controlled by spraying with Bordeaux Arsenate of Lead Mixture or by dusting the plants with Slug Shot.
