Concepción, Chile – January 18, 2026: The fire has completely destroyed houses in its path; most had already been evacuated. A tragic preliminary toll confirms sixteen death and 253 homes destroyed following uncontrolled wildfires in the commune. Driven by strong winds overnight, the flames rapidly reached urban sectors, also affecting the neighboring towns of Penco and Lirquén.
