Castle Goldrain in Middle Vinschgau, South Tyrol was the ancestral home of the Hendl family from as far back as 15th Century. After the invasion in WWII by the German Wehrmacht in September 1943, it was used as accommodation and a military base for the SS. Later by the allies and as accommodation by returning refugees. It is now an educational centre.
