The Junior Engineer - IT Services will join a team responsible for developing and supporting Alamy’s global IT Infrastructure including all cloud and on-premises infrastructure. This role will have the opportunity to be involved in our different streams of Level 1 support of Windows Servers, hosted in Cloud & On-Premises Virtual infrastructure and IT Security.

Responsibilities

Service Operation 70%

  • Work with the IT Services and Development teams to maintain availability and expected performance of our IT infrastructure and services
  • Manage and troubleshoot incidents, alerts, events, and requests related to IT services typically at 1st or 2nd line
  • Manage and maintain IT infrastructure: compute, storage, network, cloud, and data centres
  • Perform ITSCM operations, i.e., backups, high availability and resiliency including 3rd party services

Service Transition 20%

  • Provide project management of technical orientated projects, including service implementation and testing/validation
  • Participate in Change Management to implement changes to services and processes
  • Identify requirements of new hardware or services then responsibly source and purchase
  • Create documentation and give cross training

Continual Service Improvement 10%

  • Review services, identify improvements and new opportunities, and make suggestions to IT Services Manager

Other duties

  • Part of rotational shifts (24/7)

  • Suppliers/Vendors

Key Internal Contacts

  • All staff, including UK, US, India, and Australia
  • IT Services team in UK and India
  • Development/Project team in UK and India

Decision making

  • Responsible for daily workflow in accordance with priorities
  • Escalate to Senior Engineer or Lead Engineer complex problems or incidents

We're looking for someone with:

Technical Skills

  • Windows 10, Server 2016/2012/2008 R2, knowledge of Linux Servers a plus
  • Office 365, Active Directory, Group Policies
  • TCP/IP networking
  • Backup and data recovery operations
  • IT infrastructure L1/L2 support
  • Virtualisation Basics
  • Working knowledge of IT security

Personal Attributes

  • A Bachelor’s Degree with more than 2 years of hands-on experience in Microsoft Windows Administration
  • Passionate about IT and how technical solutions add value to the business
  • Good written and spoken English with the ability to effectively communicate with all areas of the business
  • Relishes the challenge of complex problem solving
  • Adaptable and happy to get involved in all tasks
  • Enjoys understanding and keeping ahead of new technologies
  • Customer Oriented
