November 29, 2019, Caracas, Miranda, Venezuela: Aura filling the water contaners with the water from Aura's sister's house...Aura Graciela Sarmiento, age 56, and her husband Jose Alberto Abreu, age 62, have not had running water at their house in 4 years. Aura works in a store selling office furniture, and Jose is a mechanic. They live in the neighborhood of Altos de Lidice in Caracas Venezuela. Altos de Lidice is a historic Chavista neighborhood. However, Aura is pro-Opposition, and has never supported the Chavez regime even though she has lived in this pro-Chavez/Maduro barrio her whole life. She cannot afford to move, so she lives among those who do not support her political views, which she says is very hard. She considers herself lucky as she is able to get water for free form her sister's house a few blocks away. Most of her neighbors are not so lucky, and have to buy water for a high price or collect rain water. Her sister has running water every few days, and lets Aura know when it is on. Aura and her husband then go and fill containers with the water. They then use this water for bathing and cooking. Aura also collects rain water when she can which she uses to clean the floors of her house. While her sister is pro-Chavez they do not let these politics get in the way of their relationship. Aura is also the leader of a social justice organization called Primero Justicia. She dedicates her free time (Credit Image: © Allison Dinner/ZUMA Wire)
