The principal function of a normal school should be twofold: first, to provide that type of instruction which will best prepare youngwomen to become successful teachers in the public schools of theState; second, to give a healthy stimulus to all right impulses andto prepare young women for the responsible duties of home-makers.So that, whether a young woman wishes to become a teacher or not, the kind of training which a normal school should provide for hershould be such as to produce culture, refinement, and a practicalacquaintance with those domestic utilities which will best fit her forher sphere of influence in the home. The future
