British army infantry (1st Battalion, Middlesex Regiment) near Bailleul, France during the Battle of the Lys (Fourth Battle of Ypres) April 1918 in which the Germans pushed back the British to the Channel ports. French reinforcements that arrived later that month put an end to the German offensive. Over half a million men was killed during April 1918. See description for more information.
