Bartlow Hills near Ashdon in Essex, raised over the bodies of those slain in a battle between Edmund Ironside & Canute the Great. Artist/engraver/cartographer: Unattributed. Provenance: "The Modern Universal British Traveller", by Charles Burlington, David Llewellyn Rees, and Alexander Murray, printed for J. Cooke, London. Type: Antique copperplate engraved print. The title of the print states that the burial mounds were "raised over the bodies of those slain in a battle between Edmund Ironside & Canute the Great" in 1016, however they are in fact earlier Roman burial mounds.
Location: Cambridgeshire
