Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain - 9 May 2005; no people in view, Saint Eulalia, a patron saint of Barcelona, was a young Roman Christian virgin who suffered martyrdom in Barcelona during the persecution of Christians in the reign of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. The imposing cathedral named after her was constructed from the 13th to 15th centuries; it lies at the heart of the city's historic Gothic Quarter.
