The Gardens were named after St Philip, a hegumen of the Monastery in the 16th century, who contributed a lot to the Monastery's household and economy. In the Gardens, monks used to keep and raise fish caught in the sea. The cultural and historic ensemble of the Solovetsky Islands is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site List.
