Olive gray above, variegated with dark gray and black; legs and body beneath, yellow; a broad black line extending from behind each eye on the sides of the thorax; wing covers, in the male, as long as the abdomen; in the female, covering two-thirds of the abdomen ; wings rather shorter than the wing covers, trans- parent, faintly tinged with yellow; spines on hind tibiae tipped with black. Length, about seven-eighths of an inch. Stenobothrus maculipennis. Scudder. The Spotted-winged Grasshopper. (Fig. 14.)
