Ilie columns projectrather more from the walls than their semidiameter; and the faces of the walls are not inthe same vertical plane, but recede from it towards the interior of the building. The widthsof the piers vary in the diflerent stories, being respectively from the lower part upwards as8-71, 8-38, and 728 ft.
