An archeologist from The Israel Antiquities Authority holds clay lamps from the eighth and ninth centuries CE, unearthed in the courtyard of an elaborate 2,000 year old Second Temple Period family burial cave, known as the Salome Cave, in the Lachish Forest in the Judean lowlands, on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. Archeologists say the cave was continued to be used in the Byzantine and Early Islamic Periods and became known as the Salome Cave due to the tradition that believes it is the burial place of Salome, the midwife of Jesus.
